My name is Abbey, I am the co-founder of Open Home Protect. I am originally from the Uk, moving here 13 years ago. I have travelled to over 30 countries, ran multiple successful businesses and in my free time it is not so free, running around after my two beautiful children.

After running my own Air bnbs and getting into property development, I dealt with a lot of purchases and auctions. I am experienced enough to know that whilst your real estate agent might say he has eyes on everyone in the home, technically that’s almost impossible as well as the fact they aren’t aware or have the knowledge of cybercrime and think photo IDs is sufficient when criminals have a whole stack of fraudulent IDs, this is through no fault of the agent but ideally if they aren’t putting extra measures in place with the rise of cyber crime and the current world then we are a great added option to the sale of your property.

I also get it, estate agents do this all day, they are over it, they want to be in and out and they don’t want to be breathing down viewers necks and following them everywhere and even if they wanted to, its impossible to have eyes on everyone as well as chat with people.

We are essentially assistants posing as wait staff. We come to every open home you have depending on house size will depend on the number of wait staff but usually 1 person will cover the kitchen/Lounge area and the other person will cover the bedrooms. Basically the main living areas and bedrooms/office where you are more likely to make phone calls and talk out loud etc are the areas that need to be watched.

Now I know what your thinking. It is not going to feel very welcoming with two people watching your every move? Well that’s why they will be serving non alcoholic beverages and some tasty treats on a platter. Think cinnamon scrolls, canoli and strawberry dipped in Chocolate. Think elegant and classy. I also know you are thinking ‘why don’t we just put CCTV in the rooms’ well I hate to break it to you but as soon as they are in your network CCTV can be Paused/deleted you name it. I have seen it.

We now have striked two goals. We have eyes on everyone and in every room all whilst making everything appear delightful.

I find it quite amazing how so much effort goes into open homes and the LOOK part but we forget the main criteria of how a home makes us FEEL.

Smells influence shopping, eating, and even real estate purchases. A home that smells like fresh cookies or cinnamon feels more inviting!

The tongue has taste buds that detect sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami flavors.

This sends signals to the brain’s reward system (dopamine release).
